In 1978, the Nara National Research Institute for Cultural Properties and the Chitose Board of Education, Chitose City, conducted a detailed survey of the Kiusu Earthwork Burial Circles and prepared a survey map. This survey revealed that adjacent burial circles shared part of the embankment and that there was a lower area of the embankment that might have served as an entrance. Earthwork Burial Circles No. 11 and No. 12 were also found with this survey.
